"Arrowhead Stitch"

Arrowhead Stitch

This stitch is worked in two passes or two phases.

The chart below has the two sizes of this stitch, the smaller is over two fabric threads and the larger is over four fabric threads. Both versions of this stitch are worked the same way. For the mystery sampler skip four fabric threads between the rows of stitches.

Each line of this chart represents a fabric thread

On the left side of your embroidery bring your threaded needle:

  • up at 1 and down at 2,

come up at 3 and go down at 4,

then up at 5 and down at 6,

then up at 4, repeat steps 1 through 6 for all the stitches across the row to the right,

save steps 7 and 8 until later.

After you reach the edge of the row cross all your diagonal stitches going back across the embroidery, come up at step 7, and go down at step 8. By doing the stitches this way your row will look the same on the back of the embroidery as it does on the front. ©2000 Linda Fontenot, www.AmericanFolkArts.com
